Topic: WPLAK Presents “Mothers of Black History”
Time: Feb 17, 2021 04:00 PM Alaska

In honor of Black History Month, WPLAK presents “Mothers of Black History”. Hosted by storyteller and author, Skywalker Payne, this unique event will share entertaining stories spanning over 3,000 years of Black History and feature stories of some of Alaska’s oft-unsung Black female historic figures.

Skywalker Payne, is an author, storyteller, energy healer, and recent recipient of an Alaska Arts Council Adaptation and Innovation Grant Award. Audiences in Denver, Colorado, Chicago, Illinois, and Des Moines, Iowa have enjoyed her stories. Also, as a Humanities Iowa speaker, she presented stories of the Underground Railroad to historical groups throughout the state. She’s told stories on many stages in Homer, where she lives.

“Mothers of Black History” is a month long virtual storytelling event, hosted by the Homer Public Library, funded by the Rasmuson Foundation and administered by the Alaska State Council of the Arts.
