Deep Cuts: The Proposed Budget Cuts & The Effects on Alaskan Women and Families
Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has proposed sweeping budget cuts to education, health care and other state services in order to pay a larger Permanent Fund dividend without new taxes. These cuts must be approved by the Alaska House and the Alaska Senate. What happens next?
Alaskans are concerned about the proposed budget cuts in our state. Women and minorities in particular pay the biggest cost in a recession / when state budgets are slashed. This discussion will allow informed panelists and audience members to talk about what impact such deep cuts would have on these communities. We will outline the pros / the cons of the proposed budget, and provide options for those looking to raise their voice in favor / opposition of the proposed cuts.
